History
While much has obviously changed in more than 85 years, many significant things haven't — including a defined set of values that foster a true sense of family, and a commitment to only the finest craftsmanship. Then couple that with a desire to build relationships that are based on old-fashioned principles like trust and integrity; a true respect for the individual; and a deeply-felt obligation to give back to the larger community, and you begin to understand why we think K.R. Sulzener is such a special place. We treat everyone with respect and always live by the Golden Rule – we treat all people as we would like to be treated.
In 1922, Gene Sulzener took up the trade of masonry. Gene worked for himself until 1946, whereas establishing a joint venture partnership known as “Baker, Sulzener, & Vastbinder”. Then, in 1956, Gene founded “Gene Sulzener & Sons Construction” with the help of his 3 sons, one of which was named Jack. The father and son team worked with Dean Tinker, who developed the 1st continuous kilns. The tandem traveled throughout 38 states building and maintenancing the kilns.
Then, in 1969, a 3rd generation of Sulzener took up the trade. Jack’s son, Kim, still in high school, started as a laborer for his father. Kim then became an apprentice mason in 1975. With the blessing of his father, Kim started his own company in 1978 where he worked primarily in the residential sector. This success carried over as Kim lead the company into the commercial construction arena. Many years of success resulted in the incorporation of K.R. Sulzener Construction where Kim continues to lead the company with the highest level of professionalism, honesty and integrity, hard work ethic, and commitment to excellence.
We'd like to think that K.R. Sulzener Construction and our business philosophy can be summarized in one word: Genuine. Be it with relationships, people, challenges or solutions, Genuine embodies what we stand for as a company, as partners and as individuals. And while we certainly have no intentions of being the largest builder, we have every intention of continually striving to become the one of the best builders that we possibly can.
